The “Short-and-Sweet” One-Take Tutorial

LETS GET STARTED

STEP 1: Choose something short and sweet that you want to teach!

Make sure it is something you can explain and film in one take. How to whistle, or how to tie your shoe laces, or how to make a sandwich. Time to brainstorm!

PRO TIP: If you are planning to edit your tutorial, you can choose something longer with more steps.

STEP 2: Break down your activity into steps and write down the instructions.

This is your script. Don’t forget to plan an intro and a conclusion to your video.

STEP 3: Prepare your materials and plan out your shots.

Are you making a milkshake? Then measure out your ingredients and get the blender out. Next, choose a location to film and make sure you’ve got good lighting and enough space.

STEP 4: Set up and start recording!

Practice your script and actions a couple of times. Set up your recording device and check your camera angles to make sure your framing is good. Film everything you need.

BONUS STEP 5: Record your voiceover separately and edit the image and sound together!

If you have access to an editing app or software, you can add some extra movie magic: titles, voiceover, music, you name it.

STEP 5 : CONGRATS YOU DID IT!

Here is everything you will need.1. A way to record video with sound2. A well lit room that is fairly quiet3. A device to type or a pen and paper4. An email account

Having a skill is one thing, but teaching it to others is on a whole new level!
