In this pre-production activity, you’ll be creating your own animation storyboard for one scene!

Using the storyboard template (available in ‘roadmap’ below), create your own character(s), locations, and actions. Be sure to think about your camera angles and the actions of your characters as you plan your scene.


DIY Sound Design with OSM

It’s your turn to recreate and record your own foley!

Join Louise Campbell of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and Philip Bignell Harris of Spectrum Productions in this fun sound design challeng. Using the ‘roadmap’ button below, access some classic Spectrum Productions scenes and make a list of each SFX (sound effect) that shows up in the scene. Now is the fun part: try and recreate these sound effects with products in your home!


Creating a Character with Clay, Animation and Drawing

Try animating your own character!

Two incredible artists, Ben Lachapelle and Lucas Leroy, guide you through this character creation challenge. Using clay, drawing, animation (or any other medium), develop and create your own animated character. Be sure to think of what specific traits your character has and what makes them unique!

Try out some visual brainstorming for poetry!

Think of your favourite place to be, what makes this place special to you? Join Heather Brunet of Vallum Magazine and Robert Girolami to write down what you can see, hear, taste, smell, and see using Vallum’s ‘senses brainstorm’. Then write a poem about your special place and let creativity be your guide!


Portrait Photography with Hands on Media

Show us who you really are with your best portrait or selfie!

Jessie Curell of Hands on Media Education and Andreas Kurz, professional autistic photographer, demonstrate what it takes to make a good portrait. First, choose a camera you can use. Think about how you want your subject framed within the shot. Then go ahead and get shooting! Feel free to play around with your settings and see how that changes your shot.


Interactive Table Read with Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal

You are in charge of deciding the end of these character’s stories!

Actors Robert Girolami and Stephanie Boghen take you on an exciting journey through this fun table read challenge. Re-read the story that most insterests you, noting any details that are important to your character’s story. Then write, write, write away and decide how this character’s story is going to end.


Collaborative Editing Challenge with DNEG

Editor Anthony Campoli shows how voice acting and sound effects impact the portrayal of a story. Re-watch the demo film through the ‘roadmap’ button below. Each film uses 4 different soundtracks, you choose the one you like best. After you’ve selected the demo film you will use, fill in the dialogue of the characters.

Make Your Own Transition

Create a unique DIY transition

Choose a fun and opaque object to cover your lens as you films a scene. The more intricate the object, the cooler the transition effect will be. This is a perfect challenge to play around with multiple variations. Have fun!


Practice Film Dubbing

Re-Dub a Spectrum scene

Write up your own dialogue and dub over a pre-existing Spectrum scene. Re-dubbing new dialogue can be hilarious!! Go on, give it a shot!
