Hybrid positions!
This year, we will be running summer camps in a hybrid format, with some in-person work and some distance work for most staff positions.
Please note that although most positions will require you to work from the studio sometimes, a large portion of that time is in a very small team without participants present. Participants will join us only for Green Screen and on-location shooting days individually or in very small groups.
Available positions:
Film Production Manager: 1 position available (hybrid, 75% in-person and 25% virtual)
Recreation Manager 1 position available (hybrid, 50% in-person and 50% virtual)
Production Assistant 6 positions available (4 hybrid, 2 virtual)
Contract duration: 10 weeks, June 7 - August 13, 2021
Camp format
We will have 1 training week and then we will run 4 camp sessions over the course of 9 weeks. During each camp session we will make 3 short films in teams, for a total of 12 short films over the whole summer. 1 film from each camp will be animated, and created entirely virtually, while 2 films from each camp will be live-action and will entail shooting on location.
For each short film, 3 mentors will guide 5 participants through making a short film from scratch. For a typical 2-week camp, we will spend Week 1, or 5 days in pre-production virtually over Zoom, 2-3 days of shooting in person in and around Spectrum’s studio, and 2-3 days of post-production virtually on Zoom again.
During the shooting days, we will aim to split into very small groups for indoor green screen shooting, location shoots, and outside shoots, always following a clear and effective COVID safety protocol. Keeping our groups small means that some group members will shoot on one day, and work from home editing on another day.
We are also going to produce 1 animated film each camp 100% virtually, which will allow some participants to join us from their homes or from another city, as well as offer a couple 100% virtual jobs for the animation mentors.
In addition, we have set up Virtual Work Stations, where production teams and participants will be able to remotely login and use software for editing, animation, and special effects.
In addition, we are offering flex-camp to participants who prefer part-time creation and want to receive mentorship throughout the summer.
