WITH SIERRA VANDERDEEN
Tristan Maroun, aka Game Success on youtube, has been reviewing animated TV shows and movies for more than two years. He has also made Life is a Stinker at Spectrum and has contributed to many other projects at the studio. Outside the studio, he hosts Tristanimation Reviews and has started work on his own animated series, Viking Hill.
Sierra: What’s the new show all about?
Tristan: Viking Hill is a project that my friend and I collaborated on together and it's about a Viking named Forrest who leads an island called Viking Hill, where he and other Vikings go on dangerous journeys and meet new members on their adventure.
Sierra: What inspired you to start making your own show?
Tristan: I was watching an anime with my friend called Vinland Saga, an anime about Vikings and what they do. So I asked my friend if he liked the idea of a show about Vikings and he agreed.
Sierra: How do you animate it and how long does it take you to make each episode?
Tristan: It takes about two months to make one episode, and a whole month to animate an episode. I also have to write the script with my friend and record myself and the actors on the show. I hope to continue this cycle and get as many episodes as I can.
Sierra: You review other animated works all the time, what have you learned from Tristananimation Reviews?
Tristan: For reviewing movies, I started out by taking inspiration from the Nostalgia Critic's Disneycember Reviews. What I learned from this experience is that I don’t always have to listen to what other people say about a movie, I can have any opinion I want. As for tv shows I’m going to start doing reviews of shows I missed over the years.
Sierra: What has been your most favourite animated movie and animated show you’ve talked about?
Tristan: My favourite movie I’ve talked about is Into the Spider-Verse because it was a great experience for Spider-Man fans like myself. My favourite show I talked about on my channel is Close Enough because it has some great humour and relatable moments.
Sierra: What has been your most favourite animated movie and animated show you have yet to talk about?
Tristan: One of my most favourite movies is Your Name because it tells a nice romantic story of our two protagonists switching bodies. While we’re in the subject of anime one of my favourite TV shows is My Hero Academia because it shows how some people who have super powers may not use them the right way.
Sierra: What are you looking forward to in the world of animation?
Tristan: When I was a kid I always wanted to be a voice actor because I always loved hearing my favourite actors portray different characters, and while I love all movie genres animation holds a place in my heart.
