PRE-PRODUCTION

CREATE A 60 SEC PITCH

LETS GET STARTED

STEP 1 : Pick a story you remember the story arc and characters from

What movie have you seen many times, and could tell us what happens from beginning to end? Choose that film to pitch! Examples of popular tales : Snow White, A little Mermaid…

STEP 2 : Write a complete pitch (synopsis) of that story in your own words

*TIP: Pretend this movie has never been made and you are introducing for the first time. The better you explain it, the higher the chance it will be greenlit for production!

Here are some important questions that may help you get started and plan your pitch.

1) What do you like about the story you are pitching?

2) What is the format? animation, live action, stop motion etc

3) What is the genre (comedy?) of and what feeling does this film give you when you watch it?

4) What are the main things that happen, starting at the beginning?

5) Why is this film interesting? Be sure to talk about the parts you like!

STEP 3 : Rehearse the pitch you wrote

If you practice telling the story of the film before you turn on the camera, it will help you deliver a great performance! Warm up your voice a little and try explaining it calmly and clearly. You may find an even better way to say it out loud!

STEP 4 : Perform the pitch on camera

Get excited about this film being made, and tell us why its amazing!

STEP 5 : CONGRATULATE YOURSELF!

Here is everything you will need.1. A way to record video with sound2. A well lit room that is fairly quiet3. A device to type or a pen and paper4. An email account

Imagine you are on your way to a big pitch meeting, and want to make sure the producer you are pitching to understand show how great your film idea is. You want to be sure they really get how you envision the story arc, who the important characters are and what they do in the story, and exactly why your idea is amazing!

The challenge is that you only have 60 seconds to grab the producer’s attention, just like the length of a real elevator ride, hence the term ‘elevator pitch. Your main goal is to keep it engaging and tell the broad strokes in a way that shows you think the story is really cool!
