OBORO hosts Spectrum Productions for our first ever soundwalk /OBORO accueille Spectrum Productions pour notre première promenade sonore

any walk (indoor or outdoor) designed to immerse an individual in the soundscape of a particular place.
On Wednesday May 17th, Spectrum Productions staff and creators from the Creative Media Lab were invited to the artist run centre OBORO for an interesting and engaging skills-exchange workshop as an extension of the collective Interrogating Access 2 project.
Creators Tracey, James, and Tamar led the group through an insightful discussion linking the artistic tradition of soundwalks to the practice of audio description. Our team then got hands-on experience on putting audio description into practice as they viewed the new exhibition "La Terre en suspens" by François Quévillon. Some groups even got to do their own soundwalks through the streets of Montreal!
Michael Campisi, our Creative Media Lab Coordinator, got to join in on the experience. This is what he had to say:
Throughout the day, I've learned the art of making a soundwalk and describing visuals through narration. Footsteps, machines, ambiance, audio visual art pieces, going around and trying to capture the littlest details through the microphone I was given gave me a new perspective on this aspect of art accessibility!
Anthony Campoli, another staff member, was amazed by how eye-opening it was to see
that audio description can be an art form of its own and how you can get creative with language describing more abstract pieces.
It was great to meet other creators in a shared space while getting to know each other's passions and workflows! The workshop was an opportunity to learn more about incorporating audio description into regular accessibility practices.
We are looking forward to continuing our exploration of audio description with OBORO at our skill share workshop here at the Spectrum Productions studio on May 24th!
Le mercredi 17 mai, le personnel de Productions Spectrum et les créateurs du Labo média créatif ont été invités au centre d'artistes OBORO pour un atelier d'échange de compétences intéressant et engageant, dans le prolongement du projet collectif Interroger l’accès 2.
Les créateurs Tracey, James et Tamar ont mené le groupe à travers une discussion perspicace reliant la tradition artistique des promenades sonores à la pratique de l'audiodescription. Notre équipe a ensuite fait l'expérience de la mise en pratique de l'audiodescription en visitant la nouvelle exposition "La Terre en suspens" de François Quévillon. Certains groupes ont même pu faire leur propre promenade sonore dans les rues de Montréal!

Tout au long de la journée, j'ai appris l'art de faire une promenade sonore et de décrire des éléments visuels par le biais d'une narration. Les bruits de pas, les machines, l'ambiance, les œuvres d'art audiovisuelles, le fait de faire le tour des lieux et d'essayer de capter les moindres détails à l'aide du microphone qui m'a été donné m'a donné une nouvelle perspective sur cet aspect de l'accessibilité à l'art!
Anthony Campoli, un autre membre du personnel, a été stupéfait de voir à quel point cela lui a ouvert les yeux que
l'audiodescription peut être une forme d'art à part entière et qu'il est possible de faire preuve de créativité dans le langage pour décrire des œuvres plus abstraites.
C'était formidable de rencontrer d'autres créateurs dans un espace partagé tout en apprenant à connaître les passions et les flux de travail de chacun ! L'atelier a été une formidable occasion d'en apprendre davantage sur l'intégration de l'audiodescription dans l'accessibilité régulière.
Nous sommes impatients de poursuivre notre exploration de l'audiodescription avec OBORO lors de notre atelier de partage de compétences ici au studio de Productions Spectrum le 24 mai!
