INTRODUCING JAKE SAVARD
Quick-witted, Inventive, and confident Production Lead!
His name Dr. Rev. Jacob “Jake” Savard Esq. III, Hero of Men, but you can just call him Jake(He/Him). He's been working with us as a Production Lead since the Summer of 2019 and is now is leading the production of Season Two of Spectrum Live. With his quips and candor he makes an immediate impression, and is always there to lift the spirits of the room and make even the most boring of shoots an unforgettable day! I was really curious where he gets so much positive energy from and how it shows in his animation, so I talked to him about that, and a lot more!

You've got a lot of enthusiasm and can come up with puns out of nowhere! Where do you get that from?
I don't know, it's just something I subconsciously built up over the years, learning a lot of it from from TV and other random shows.
When did you get into animating and what inspired you?
I've been wanting to be an animator since I was four years old; it's all I ever wanted to do. I found I had a talent for drawing, and when I learned that all the cartoons I watched when I was little were made by people like me I was so inspired! Watching shows like EddsWorld and Team Four Star really got me going.

Whoa, you started that young? Were you able to get your first job as an animator?
No, my first job was dishwashing at a pub with terrible plumbing that left water all over the floor and it was slippery and dangerous and probably not something anyone should ever do. Oh my goodness the things you do for money!
I know, right? How did you get more serious about animating?
I just started doing my own thing. In 2010 I made my YouTube channel JakeClipz and uploaded my first short film. It was a slow and overwhelming process at first, but I'm getting better and making strides all the time. My animation has evolved a lot and I've changed gears from making silly and irreverent shorts, to making films with an impactful story with some comedy thrown in!

Did you go to school for animation at all?
Yes, I started going to Concordia University to get an education in filmmaking and learning to draw on model, which is using the model of your last drawing to make your next one. It takes effort but is so worth it to make it come out right! Also looking for feedback and getting constructive criticism was really important. While at Concordia I heard about the Spectrum Productions studio through my fellow student Calvin Leslie! He brought up summer employment in 2018 and I joined Spectrum the following year! Calvin is still the best collaborator I’ve worked with yet! I've been working on my own short animations and projects on the side.

What movie have you watched that really connected with yourself?
My favourite movie is “The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya”, it's a mystery-drama filled film, and my favourite part is the main character's battle of instead of surpress all the nonsense he's been confronted with, he comes to terms with it.

Chef de production, inventif, confiant et vif d'esprit!
Son nom est Dr. Rev. Jacob « Jake » Savard Esq. III Héro de l'Homme, mais vous pouvez simplement l’appeler Jake (il/lui). Il travaille avec nous comme chef de production depuis l’été 2019 et dirige maintenant la production de la deuxième saison de Spectrum Live. Avec ses blagues et sa franchise, il fait une impression immédiate, et est toujours là pour remonter le moral de la salle et faire même le tournage le plus ennuyeux en une journée inoubliable! J’étais vraiment curieux de savoir d’où il tire tant d’énergie positive si présent dans ses animations, alors je lui en ai parlé, et bien plus encore !
Vous avez beaucoup d’enthousiasme et pouvez sortir des jeux de mots de nulle part! D’où tirez-vous cela?
Je ne sais pas, c’est juste quelque chose que j’ai inconsciemment construit au fil des ans, en apprenant beaucoup à partir d'émissions aléatoires à la télévision.
Quand avez-vous commencé à animer et qu’est-ce qui vous a inspiré ?
Je veux être animateur depuis que j’ai quatre ans; c’est tout ce que j’ai toujours voulu faire. J’ai trouvé que j’avais un talent pour le dessin, et quand j’ai appris que tous les dessins animés que je regardais quand j’étais petit étaient faits par des gens comme moi, j’étais tellement inspiré! Regarder des émissions comme EddsWorld et Team Four Star m’a vraiment fait démarrer.

Whoa, vous avez commencé si jeune? Avez-vous pu obtenir votre premier emploi d’animateur?
Non, mon premier travail était de faire la vaisselle dans un pub, avec une plomberie terrible dont l’eau coulait partout au sol. C’était glissant, et dangereux, et probablement quelque chose que tout le monde devrait éviter. Oh mon Dieu, les choses qu'on fait pour l’argent!

Tellement! Comment êtes-vous devenu sérieux au sujet de l’animation?
Je viens de commencer à faire mes propres choses. En 2010, j’ai fait ma chaîne YouTube JakeClipz et j'ai publié mon premier court métrage. Ce fut un processus lent et accablant au début, mais je m’améliore et je fais du progrès tout le temps. Mon animation a beaucoup évolué et mon rythme aussi, allant de courts métrages stupides et irrévérencieux, à faire des films avec une histoire percutante avec une certaine dose de comédie!
As-tu étudiez l’animation du tout?
Oui, j’ai commencé à aller à l’Université Concordia pour obtenir une formation en cinéma et apprendre à dessiner sur modèle, utilisant le modèle de votre dernier dessin pour faire votre prochain. Il faut beaucoup d'efforts, mais ca en vaut vraiment la peine pour en faire sortir le résultat! Aussi, obtenir de la critiques constructive et la rétroaction était vraiment important. Pendant mon séjour à Concordia, j’ai entendu parler du studio de Spectrum Productions par l’entremise de mon collègue Calvin Leslie! Il a parlé d’emploi d’été en 2018 et je me suis joint à Spectrum l’année suivante! Calvin est toujours le meilleur collaborateur avec qui j’ai travaillé jusqu’à maintenant! Depuis, je travaille sur mes propres courtes animations et projets sur le côté.

Quel est le film avec lequel vous avez eu la plus profonde connection?
Mon film préféré est « La disparition d’Haruhi Suzumiya », c’est un film rempli de mystères dramatiques, et ma partie préférée est la bataille du personnage principal, au lieu de surpasser toutes les absurdités auxquelles il a été confronté, il s’en accommode.
